Who's in charge around here?

Mitch
Hudson

After graduating with a film degree from Liberty University, Mitch directed an acclaimed feature film and several award-winning short films that have screened in film festivals nationwide.

Since 2019, Mitch has served as assistant director on the hit series The Chosen, directing thousands of background actors in some of the most iconic biblical scenes ever captured on film.

Mitch and his wife Maddy currently live in Atlanta with their cat Mia.

Richie
Johns

producer

Richie’s passion for filmmaking began as a senior in high school with his feature film Ruth: A Faithful Journey, which screened for six-weeks in his hometown theater.

Graduating from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Richie advanced as a First Assistant Director and gained experience both on set and in the Production Office of Paramount, Lionsgate, and MGM.

Richie and his wife Bethany operate Studio 523, focusing on telling stories that inspire hope. Richie is making his directorial debut with Still Hope, a feature film about human trafficking survivors, set for theatrical release in 2026. Richie and Bethany live with their two corgis in Atlanta.

Our goal is to show that these biblical characters were just like us

Sure, they had bread falling from heaven and water spouting from a rock. And, yes, they followed pillars of cloud and fire through the desert…

But, they were basically ordinary people who tried their best, made mistakes, and learned how to live in peace. Well, eventually.

How one simple idea turned into a whole production

Fall 2021

The Big Idea

“What if Moses wasn’t larger than life? What if he was… like us?”

While working on The Chosen, Mitch Hudson began writing scripts for The Promised Land, bringing the humanity, humor, and awkward reality of Moses’ story to life.

Fall 2022

Scouting the Desert

Finding the right location meant finding the perfect mix of red rocks, desert sand, and just enough civilization to sustain a film set.

October 2023

Lights, Camera, Exodus

The pilot episode was filmed on location in Carlsbad, New Mexico, with a small and passionate cast and crew.

Between the dust, the heat, the rain, and the early mornings, the team captured the first chapter of this ancient story.

May July 2024

40 Days & 40 Nights

Leading up to the pilot release, the team launched a 40-day long grassroots marketing campaign across social media to build anticipation and grow an early community of fans.

Pre-release screenings of the pilot at local Tennessee colleges sparked an early buzz.

July 7, 2024

The Pilot Goes Public

When the pilot launched on YouTube, it quickly attracted an audience.

Within weeks, thousands of new viewers were discovering The Promised Land and fans were (politely) demanding more.

Late 2024 2025

Season One in the Works

Encouraged by the response, the team headed to St. George, Utah with a full cast and expanded crew to film Season One.

Post-production is now underway, with new episodes coming soon.

now

More stories to tell. More awkward moments to film. More wandering ahead.
